Digital Trust & Cybersecurity

At the cutting edge of IT security

Disruptions, misdirections, tampering, and other targeted attacks via electronic networks are among the cyber risks that are part and parcel of the information society. In a world that is ever more connected and interdependent, IT attacks are becoming increasingly inevitable, with cybercrime no longer the exclusive domain of a handful of experts – indeed, nowadays it seems to be a service that can be purchased by the highest bidder.

Faced with these challenges, Switzerland is particularly well positioned to become a veritable shield of cybersecurity on an international level. With its well-earned reputation for discretion, security, and reliability, it is home to a number of NGOs, banks, and businesses in the health sector that are tasked with managing the data of millions of clients.

Around Lausanne and Yverdon-les-Bains, the concentration of companies that are experienced in IT security (SCRT, Kudelski Security, Vigiswiss, etc.) and high-level research centers and incubators drives the enthusiasm for fundamental and applied research in all of the sectors concerned by cybersecurity. The launch of the "Center for Digital Trust," supported by the EPFL, is another demonstration of this.

This favorable framework, bolstered by aid from a cantonal and a federal level, explains why business is thriving in the region. In Switzerland, Vaud is at the forefront of the cantons investing in information and communication technologies (ICT) and supporting cutting-edge structures that have emerged from universities and institutes of further education.
